Decision making

Organizations routinely gather information through surveys. They might examine customer satisfaction, assess the market for a prospective product, or evaluate employee concerns. As access to the Internet, and especially the World Wide Web, becomes more common, the feasibility of gathering survey data over that medium becomes more reasonable and cost effective. CSI's products allow our clients to create surveys that can simultaneously be administered in traditional paper format, and can be faxed back, mailed back or entered over the web.

The Challenge:
A multinational oil company was implementing a new information system that would require considerable changes in processes and procedures. Based on similar previous experiences, they were concerned that organizational performance would decline when the new system was brought online. They developed a map of all of the key performance indicators that might be affected. In addition they wanted to survey all of their employees to determine which indicators were considered most important to company success.

The Solution:
CSI partnered with the client and used the CSGlobal program to construct an internal survey of employees views of performance. The survey was based on the performance map that the project team had constructed. All relevant company employees were sent the web address for the survey by e-mail and asked to complete the survey within a span of two days. The respondents were able to use their standard web browser to supply key demographic data and complete the ratings.

The Result:
The client had the benefit of: a user-friendly survey that employees could complete without leaving their office; an online survey that only cost a fraction of their typical surveys; an instrument that enabled the entire study to be completed in a fraction of the usual time required; timely, high-quality data that was used in developing a performance measurement system.
